Emily Mitchell
MITCHELL, EMILY, 81, of Louisville, died Thursday, October 6, 2011. She was a member of Oakland Baptist Church and a retired employee from Iroquois High School. Survivors: daughter, Connie Mitchell; son Ronnie Mitchell (Emma); five grandchildren, Angela Lockhart, who was also her caregiver, Shaun Lockhart, Ronnie Mitchell Jr., Antonio Mitchell and Cody Mitchell; a host of great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews. Visitation: 6-9 p.m. Thursday, October 13, 2011 at her church, 1226 Algonquin Pkwy. Funeral service: 11 a.m. Friday, October 14, 2011 at Oakland Missionary Baptist Church with burial in Green Meadows Cemetery.

Deacon John A. Weaver

Weaver, John A., 77, died October 1, 2011. He was a member of Oakland Missionary Baptist Church, Chairman of the Deacon Board, a retiree from General Electric Company, a Purple Heart veteran and member of Gideon's International. Survivors include his wife, Adell Weaver; four children, Lerone Weaver (Anquinette), Remela Mills (Bruce), Jonathan Weaver (Rikci) and Allida Williams (Edwin); seven siblings; 10 grandchildren; two great-grandchildren and a host of other relatives and friends. Funeral: 11 a.m. Saturday, October 8, 2011 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 3315 Dixie Hwy., with burial in Louisville Cemetery. Visitation: noon-2 p.m. Friday at G.C. Williams, and 6-9 p.m. Friday, October 7, 2011 at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church.

Charlie Richard Moorman, Sr.

MOORMAN, CHARLIE RICHARD SR., 89, passed away peacefully at Veterans Hospital, Wednesday, August 31, 2011. He was a Navy veteran, retiree of L&N Railroad and Brown & Williamson, having worked at least 25 years on each job, and was a lifelong member of Oakland Baptist Church. Left to cherish his memory are his children, Patricia Ann, Charlie Jr. and William Alfred Moorman; brother, James "Boot" Moorman Sr. (Jerriline); sister, Laura "Sis" Priest; grandchildren, Teri Sharlee Gates (Thadrow), Prima Moorman, Angeleca Dunbar (Kevon) and Ashley and Micah Moorman; great-grandchildren, Julian, Patricia, Thomas, Roary "Heaven," Wesley, Khairi and Ahkeil; his former wife and mother of his children, Barbara Dawson; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends. His Homegoing Celebration was 5 p.m. Tuesday at his church, 1226 Algonquin Pkwy., with visitation beginning at 3 p.m. at the church. Private burial was at Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central. Thomas Everette Leach, Sr.
Thomas, 69, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, July 16, 2011. He was a Deacon at Oakland Missionary Baptist Church, a retired employee of CSX Railroad, an Army veteran and a Mason. He is survived by his wife, Louise G. Leach; children, Dwight Sr., Thomas Jr. "Skip" and Shannon T. Leach; sisters, Margaret "Peggy" Green, Ann Lauree Beeler, Doris Rudolph, Madgalene Bargas, Patricia Leach, Emily Dolberry and Karen Diane Staton; nine grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, other relatives and friends.  Funeral: 11am Saturday at Antioch Missionary Baptist Church, 3315 Dixie Highway. Burial in Louisville Cemetery. Visitation: 6-9 pm Sunday at the Antioch church. Arrangements by A.D. Porter & Sons Funeral Home.

Robert R. "Big Game" Hunter
Father of Chantay Hunter passed away on Tuesday, April 27, 2010 at the age of 73. He was a retired employee from Fire King International. He is survived by his children; Tyrone, Cornel, Chantay and Troy Hunter; 10 grandchildren; two great grandchildren; and a host of other relatives and friends. Rev. Dr. A.J. Elmore, Sr., Pastor Emeritus
On Sunday, March 21, 2010, the Rev. A.J. Elmore Sr. passed away. He was the pastor of the Oakland Baptist Church for 40 years. He is survived by his wife, Ann Elmore; four sons, Rev. Alvin J. Jr., Dr. Ronn, Gordon and Rev. Larry Elmore; and eight grandchildren. Funeral: 11am Friday at West Chestnut Street Baptist Church, 1725 W. Chestnut, with burial in Louisville Cemetery. Mamie L. Chambers
On Saturday, December 12, 2009, at the age of 76, Mamie L. Chambers passed away. She was a native of Shelbyville, KY. She was a retired employee at the Jefferson County Board of Education and a member of Oakland Missionary Baptist Church. She is survived by her husband, Walter Chambers; sons, Charles, Leroy, Michael and David Carter; two stepsons, Rev. Terry Chambers and Charles Perkins. On Monday, June 1, 2009, Griffin Downs, 59, passed away. He was a member of Oakland Baptist Church. He was preceded in death by his father, Leroy Downs. Survived by his sisters, Leona Landrum, Mildred Watkins, and Evelene Chae; brother, Kenneth Downs; mother, Eddie Mae Downs; and a host of nieces, nephews other relatives and friends. Anthony Avent Moorman
Born December 16, 1956, Anthoy Moorman passed away Wednesday, January 14, 2009. He was a retired Louisville Firefighter and devoted father. He was preceded in death by his father, Wilbur Moorman Jr. He leaves behind to mourn his loss his mother, Georgiana Avent; his children, Aaron Moorrman, Iman Moorman, Raemona Jones; two brothers, Dana Harrison Moorman, Rodney Cleveland Moorman; sister, Patricia Winrow Weaver; and a host of cousins, aunts, nieces, nephews and loyal friends. He will dearly be missed. Visitation is 11 a.m.-1 p.m. Monday Oakland Baptist Church, 1226 Algonquin Parkway, with funeral service to follow. Burial is in Calvary Cemetery. A. D. Infant son to Robert Young Sr. and Kaela Alexander, died Tuesday, January 13, 2009, at Kosair Children's Hospital.
